Whirlygigs

Dreamweaver Whirly Gigs are an excellent choice for targeting Lake Trout, especially when rigged behind a large paddle flasher. To set up, attach the Whirly Gig 18–24 inches behind the flasher using a fluorocarbon or monofilament leader. The paddle creates a wide, slow-rolling action that mimics a struggling baitfish, while the Whirly Gig spins and adds extra vibration and flash, making it irresistible to trout. Often tipped with a chunk of cut bait, such as herring or smelt, this setup effectively triggers aggressive strikes. When trolled at slow speeds, typically 1.3 to 1.8 mph, the combination of the paddle’s movement and the Whirly Gig’s spinning action keeps Lake Trout engaged, even in deep water.
